Softball Socks - How to Select Appropriate Socks for Softball
By Ilse Hagen
Your feet and legs are subjected to abuse whenever you play softball so it's always wise to wear the right footwear as well as the right socks. This will ensure that you don't injure yourself while playing. According to the rules of the sport, spiked shoes are required when playing the game. Your softball socks need to be made of highly durable material that can withstand shock and pressure from moving about during the game.
Material
Softball socks are usually made of cotton, spandex, acrylic and wool. Your choice would, of course, depend on which material you're comfortable with. Acrylic is the most popular selection because it is comfortable, durable and absorbent. It also dries quickly. The next best thing would probably be wool because it is also as absorbent and comfortable as acrylic. The best thing about wool is that it doesn't deform all to easily so it lasts longer.
Length and fit
The length of your socks is still according to preference. Since softball usually entails sliding on the ground a whole lot, you will want to protect your knees and legs from injury by getting knee-length softball socks. Some players are more comfortable with socks that come just right below the knee.
The general rule with softball socks is that you should go with one that has a snug fit. Don't get socks that are way too tight or too lose that you have to keep on pulling them up every five minutes. Tight socks cut off blood circulation which could be a problem especially when playing something as strenuous as softball.
